Have you ever asked yourself “How do I know if my tarot reading is good enough?” or felt that creeping self-doubt before flipping over the cards? If so, you’re not alone. There is a process to becoming a confident tarot reader.
Building confidence as a tarot reader is a journey, but one that’s absolutely within your reach. Whether you’re brand new or you’ve been reading for a while, the path to becoming a skilled and intuitive tarot reader is paved with practice, self-trust, and a little guidance.
In this post, I’m sharing practical and intuitive tarot tips for people wanting to read professionally. This will help you:
• Overcome fear and self-doubt
• Strengthen your tarot intuition
• Improve accuracy
• Gain confidence to read for others (even professionally!)
Practice Is the Magic Ingredient

If you want to become a confident tarot reader, the single most powerful thing you can do is practice. Read for others, even before you feel ready.
It’s great to start with yourself, friends, and family. But the real growth happens when you begin reading for strangers. Try:
• Participating in tarot reading exchanges online. There is a great Discord group, Tarotholics. I highly recommend!
• Joining local tarot meetup groups. It’s great to practice face to face and live.
• Posting readings in Facebook learning communities for feedback
Getting honest feedback in a safe environment builds your trust in your own intuition and that is priceless.
Start Small and Keep It Simple
To overcome tarot reading fear, reduce pressure.
Start with short sessions (5–15 minutes) and spreads with 3–5 cards. Save more complex spreads like the Celtic Cross until you feel confident reading live.Less pressure = more freedom to experiment and trust yourself.
Begin Reading for Clients
Once you’ve practiced and received some feedback, take the leap into professional tarot reading:
• Start with lower-priced readings to get experience
• Let people know you’re still learning, and feedback is welcome
• Start in a casual setting like a bar or cafe to get clients. (always get permission from the owners first)
• Volunteer at community events. Local fairs or fund raisers are a great place to start.
• Try platforms like Etsy, Keen, or Kasamba if you’re in a remote area and don’t have access to any live venues. Offer low-cost readings to get some practice.
Practice is the best way to build tarot reading confidence and develop your own unique style.
Say Goodbye to the Guidebook
One of the biggest mindset shifts comes when you stop relying on the book during your readings.
Try doing personal or practice readings without referencing outside sources, then check your results afterward. This builds trust in your own interpretations and deepens your intuitive connection.
Learn Your Keywords (Yes, Really!)

Contrary to popular belief, memorizing the standard tarot meanings doesn’t make you less intuitive. It gives you a solid foundation to launch from.
When those meanings live in your head, you’re free to layer on intuitive hits, symbolism, and energetic impressions with confidence.
Embrace the Lifelong Journey
Recognize that you are always learning and growing as a reader. Never stop being curious and never stop exploring tarot. Keep a tarot journal and work on your own personal ‘little white book’. Spending time every day exploring the tarot and tracking it in a journal is the most important thing you can do to become a proficient reader, improve your intuitive skills and gain confidence. Ok, maybe it would be tied with practice as most important.
Keep a tarot journal

Be curious and open to new insights
This daily devotion to your craft will help you become a truly confident and intuitive tarot reader.

One Last Word of Advice For You
Unless you’re magically gifted with divination superpowers (most of us are not), don’t tell yourself you need a little more time to be ready. If you think like this, you will never be ready. My advice? Be like The Fool and step off the cliff. Just do it. There will never be a more perfect time than today.
